Daniel Yule leaves Fischer after 19 years - new start with atomic!
Daniel Yule, the most successful Swiss slalom driver in the history of alpine skiing, has ended his collaboration with Fischer after 19 years and changes to Atomic. The 32-year-old describes this step as an emotional farewell because he spent his entire career on Fischer-Ski. Yule expresses that the change has been difficult for him, but he wants to start a fresh start with new material. This project came about after tests on the Reiteralm, in which he rediscovered the fascination for skiing and described the feeling during the tests as "love on the first swing".
Christian Höflehner, head of the racing at Atomic, praises Yules performance during these tests and emphasizes that a good combination between Yule and Atomic can be expected. Yule's last World Cup victory took place in Chamonix in 2024, while in the current 2024/25 season he could not reach a podium, with sixth place in Wengen his best result. Yule, who has booked seven World Cup victories, sees the change to Atomic the opportunity to develop its sporting potential and continue to compete on the international stage.
A look at the ski history of Switzerland
The change from Yule to Atomic falls into a time that is strongly shaped by the history and development of skiing in Switzerland. On December 1, 2023, the reference work Skiland Switzerland was published, which extensively treats the history of skiing in Switzerland.
The book not only offers insights into the life of 'Skination Switzerland', but also recognizes prominent Swiss ski athletes such as Bernhard Russi, Vreni Schneider and Marco Odermatt, all of whom are part of this illustrated sports history. Symbolic places of skiing are called, including Zermatt and St. Moritz, which represent a decisive chapter in the development of winter sports.
In addition, it is emphasized that skiing in Switzerland is viewed both socially and politically, which is evident among other things in the promotion of school camps and tourism. The symbiosis of personal experience, great competitions, such as the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo, and the World Championships in 1987 in Crans Montana is the core of this sport that is closely linked to the cultural identity of Switzerland.
