Tensions between China and the USA are reaching a new peak. How crown reports, the Chinese market regulator has opened an antitrust investigation against the US chip manufacturer Nvidia. These legal actions are intended to uncover alleged violations of competition rules, particularly in relation to Nvidia's acquisition of the Israeli company Mellanox in 2020. The conflict is exacerbated by increasing trade restrictions between the two countries over the past year, particularly in computer chip and artificial intelligence technologies.
The USA had already significantly restricted the export of important technologies to China, which Beijing sees as an attempt to hinder economic exchange. In response to US restrictions, China has regulated exported raw materials necessary for semiconductor production to the US. Nvidia dominates the market for graphics processing units (GPUs), which are essential for AI applications, and now controls between 70 and 95 percent of the market Observer reported.
