Car sharing in Zurich: 8,000 fewer cars thanks to Mobility!
The car sharing cooperative Mobility shows impressive results that not only reduce the volume of traffic in Zurich, but also significantly reduce the space required. According to an independent report commissioned by Mobility, the impact of car sharing in Zurich is particularly notable. Instead of 8,000 private vehicles blocking city parking spaces, Mobility makes it possible to save this space and create space for other uses. Mobility CEO Roland Lötscher emphasizes that without this offer, Zurich would face an even bigger traffic problem Ökonews reports.
Impressive stats and savings
The study found that, on average, a single mobility vehicle replaces up to 18 private cars. In Zurich, this figure is even higher – here one Mobility car replaces 21 private vehicles. In total, this means that almost 100,000 square meters of space are saved in the city through the use of car sharing, which is around six times the size of Sechseläutenplatz. This not only offers an opportunity to reduce traffic, but also supports sustainable mobility strategies in urban regions, such as the “Urban Space and Mobility 2040” initiative, which aims to repurpose areas.
But it's not just the parking situation that is improving: the study highlights that a higher proportion of car sharing significantly reduces individual motorized transport. Mobility customers often forego their own car altogether, which leads to increased use of public transport, bicycles and walking. According to the results of the study, the number of cars per 1,000 people in households with a Mobility subscription is at least twice as low as in those without. This development was also reported on the website of the Zurich Transport Association ( ZVV ), which advocates for an innovative and sustainable mobility culture.
