Wien, Österreich - Valentine's Day, an indispensable sales driver for domestic trade, also ensures huge purchase impulses in Austria in 2025. According to the latest consumer check of the trade association, in cooperation with Reppublika Research, around two thirds of the Austrians have planned to buy gifts on Valentine's Day inside. The expenses amount to an average of 70 euros per person, a slight decline compared to 71 euros in the previous year. Nevertheless, there are additional revenue for trading of around 150 million euros, as Commercial Association Managing Director Rainer wants to emphasize. "Valentine's Day remains an emotional fixed point in retail," says Will.

In 2025, the Austrians show themselves: Inside and mostly give away to their partners: inside (32%) and spouses: inside (21%). Flowers and plants with 56% are the most sought -after gifts, followed by chocolate and other sweets (22%). Inpatient trade remains the preferred point of shop, with 33% of those surveyed to seek their luck in retail stores beyond large shopping streets. The expenditure vary regionally: The Viennese spend the most inside with an average of 81 euros, while the people in Lower Austria and Burgenland only spend 64 euros.
The declines compared to the past three years are significant. Three years ago, the output value was still 84 euros, which shows that consumer habits are slowly changing. Nevertheless, the anticipation for Valentine's Day is unbroken because it not only celebrates love, but also gives indispensable sales impulses to trade. Valentine's Day is still considered a significant occasion to express appreciation and respect for the partners, while other people, such as mothers and friends, are not neglected.
