Sturmwoche in Vienna: record gusts of up to 125 km/h and many missions!

storm warnings and temporary closures are currently shaped by the situation in Vienna and the surrounding area. In Schönbrunn, the Meieritor and the Maria Theresia goal were closed due to extreme weather conditions. The yellow storm warning issued by Geosphere Austria on Monday concerns parts of Lower Austria, Burgenland and also Vienna. Particularly alarming are the measured wind gusts, which were even registered with stormy hurricane gusts of up to 125 km/h on Monday morning in Döbling and at the anniversary maintenance center in Ottakring, as Radio Vienna Wetter expert Kevin Hebstreit reported.

The Viennese fire brigade had had to deal with over 60 missions since Sunday evening, which are related to the high wind speeds. These missions mainly affected overturned construction site grids and loose bricks, so that no serious damage was reported. Despite the intensive weather conditions, the situation remains controllable, and the gusts should let up in the evening, which is a relief for the population.

Development in the Schönbrunner Schlosspark

In the historic Schönbrunner Schlosspark, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, the Federal Gardens of Vienna are responsible for care. In view of the need to maintain the park in a reasonable condition, the renewal of the portal lodges is currently being worked on in order to meet the requirements of modern use. According to a report by Töpfer.at , the previous accommodation of the parallel views is insufficient, especially with regard to sanitary rooms and air conditioning. The new porting lodges on the Maria Theresientor and the Meieritor should not only offer functionality, but also aesthetically adapted to the existing structures in the park.
