Burgenland plans the first inpatient hospice center in Oberpullendorf

In Burgenland, the hospice and palliative care medical care is raised to a new level. The country's first inpatient hospice is being built in Oberpullendorf, which is expected to be opened in 2026. This development represents a significant step, since Burgenland has so far been the only federal state in Austria that did not have inpatient hospice.

At the presentation of this project, Leonhard Schneemann emphasized that the planning is already well advanced and the commissioning of the hospice is considered a central milestone in the expansion of the hospice and palliative care. "We are completely closing the gap of the care," said Schneemann.
The hospice will be equipped with ten beds for palliative care. A team of around 25 specialists, mainly nursing staff with specialization in palliative care, will work there. In addition, experts from various specialist areas such as social work, psychology, physiotherapy and nutrition are integrated into the multi -professional team.

expansion of mobile services

In addition to the construction of the stationary hospice, mobile care is also expanded. Around 900,000 euros are available for this year 2023, who flow into the training of nurses, among other things, so that they can work more effectively with palliative patients. Mobile hospice teams are to be set up in each district, with the exception of Güssing and Jennersdorf, which are supervised.

The mobile teams offer seriously ill people and their relatives to have extensive support until the end of life. Currently, two mobile palliative teams from the Burgenland social services look after around 557 people who received a total of over 2,300 home visits and 7,400 care hours this year. The managing director of Burgenland's social services, Johannes Zsifkovits, emphasizes how important this work is because it takes into account not only the physical needs of the patients, but also the emotional and social requirements of their relatives.

meaning of the hospice supply

The opening of the new hospice and strengthening the mobile teams are significant progress in the support of people in the last phase of life. These developments answer the growing demand for high -quality palliative care and ensure that those affected and their families receive the necessary help to cope with these challenging times.
