Insolvency at Hauswirth: 120 employees affected in Kittsee
In Kittsee there is worrying news for chocolate lovers and the 120 employees of Franz Hauswirth Ges.m.b.H. The bankruptcy of the regional chocolate manufacturer was announced on Tuesday. The Credit Protection Association of 1870 (KSV1870) announced that the company had opened bankruptcy proceedings following its own application, with liabilities estimated at around 10.5 million euros.
The reasons for bankruptcy are varied. Rising wage costs, declining sales as a result of the corona pandemic and general inflation are contributing to these difficulties. There is also uncertainty regarding the number of creditors, as the KSV does not yet have any precise information on this.
Overview of bankruptcy
According to KSV1870, the company itself has expressed its intention to continue as part of the insolvency proceedings. Alexander Greifeneder from KSV1870 explained that the insolvency administrator, Michael Wagner, will now check whether it is possible to continue the company. Otherwise, closure could be inevitable. The financing for the continuation should be secured through existing bank balances and the collection of outstanding claims.
The important meeting to examine the matter is scheduled for February 17, 2025 at the regional court in Eisenstadt. Affected creditors have until February 3, 2025 to file their claims.
It is noteworthy that the chocolate manufacturer has a long tradition. The company's roots go back to after the Second World War, when Roman and Peter Hauswirth's grandfather opened a pastry shop in Vienna, which laid the foundation for the later chocolate factory. Since 2006, the company has been run by the third generation of the brothers Roman and Peter Hauswirth.
Developments surrounding this bankruptcy raise questions about the future of the company. If you would like to find out more about the current status and the background, you can read here.
