Flood protection in Pöttelsdorf: New retention basin after completion

KAn important construction project in Pöttelsdorf was recently successfully completed: The flood retention basin on the Wulka is now finished and significantly increases protection against flood events in the region. With an investment of over 800,000 euros, this project is an important part of the flood protection system in the Wulka Valley.

Almost the entire region can benefit from this measure. The retention basin itself not only makes a fundamental contribution to flood protection, but, in conjunction with similar systems in Marz-Walbersdorf and Mattersburg, acts as part of a comprehensive protection concept.

Significant protection for Pöttelsdorf

The capacity has increased significantly due to the expansion of the pool. Around 65,000 square meters of building land and around 50 buildings in Pöttelsdorf are now under reliable flood protection. This is particularly important as extreme weather events and floods have repeatedly caused damage in the past.

Mayor Christian Kurz of Pöttelsdorf, together with Herbert Pinter of Zemendorf/Stöttera and Frank Wiemer of Antau, recently visited the new facility and was impressed by the progress. The cooperation and investments in flood protection are a clear sign of the effort to improve the quality of life in the region.

The completion of this project is the result of intensive planning and construction work aimed at creating a protective infrastructure that provides greater security for residents. As previously mentioned, spread across the region, these retention basins help minimize future flood risks.

The project not only represents progress in harm reduction, but it also symbolizes the committed commitment of the responsible authorities to protecting the community. This investment is a necessary response to the challenges posed by climate change and changing weather conditions.
