Innovative partnership: E-charging with green electricity from Burgenland!
ÖAMTC, Raiffeisen and Siemens are entering into a groundbreaking partnership to reshape e-mobility in Austria. From the first quarter of 2025, electric car drivers will be able to obtain green electricity directly from the Raiffeisen energy cooperatives at public charging stations in Burgenland. This model, which is based on collective electricity production, increases both the sustainability and cost efficiency of electromobility. Ernst Kloboucnik, ÖAMTC state director, emphasizes the importance of this initiative: “We are actively shaping the mobility transition,” he explained, pointing to the regional savings for members of the cooperative models.
Burgenland, which launched a unique network of energy cooperatives in 2022, offers the ideal basis for this. As the only federal state with 100% area coverage through such cooperative structures, it creates stable and affordable tariffs for consumers and producers. In addition, the mobility partnership will be gradually expanded to Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Styria and Carinthia in the coming years raiffeisen.at reported.
Together towards the goal of the energy transition
A central goal of the Renewable Energy Expansion Act in Austria is to increase green electricity production to 81 terawatt hours by 2030. According to the law, energy communities should actively participate in the expansion. These communities allow citizens and companies to produce and share electricity locally, with the potential of photovoltaic systems and wind power being crucial. The model of energy communities shows how direct participation and shared responsibility can contribute to a faster energy transition.
The innovative mobility partnership not only creates a sustainable e-charging infrastructure, but also strengthens regional energy use. The participants of all energy cooperatives are incentivized to participate in this future-oriented project through democratic structures and simple participation conditions. The resulting synergy between e-mobility and sustainable energy production is a crucial step for a greener future in Austria.
