Safe on the go: traffic safety campaign for elementary school students in Gerasdorf
The safety of our children in road traffic is a serious and urgent topic that should not be ignored. This is also shown by the current accident statistics: In 2023, 71 children were seriously injured in the school bus in 2023. Against this background, the campaign "My Bus School", carried out by the AUVA (General Accident Insurance Institute) and the KFV (Board of Trustees), took place at several elementary schools in the Güssing district.
This preventive initiative aimed to raise awareness of the students and challenges when driving a bus. At the schools in Gerasdorf, Heiligenbrunn, Strem and Eberau, important behaviors were brought closer to the children, which they should be careful when getting in, getting out and waiting at the stop. The campaign included practical exercises that should raise awareness of security measures in order to sustainably reduce the risk of accidents.
practical exercises on traffic safety
A central element of the training was the thematization of the so -called "dead angle", an area that the bus driver may not have in mind. Here the students learned how important it is to make themselves visible and take a few steps back to ensure that the driver can see them. This knowledge was supported by vivid exercises in which the children could experience what happens when a bus suddenly begins to slow down.
Another aspect of the action was the right behavior near the stop. The children practice how to get up when the bus arrives and how they get in and out safely. These practical exercises are essential to show the children what it means to be safe.
traffic safety is not a unique topic, but should be refreshed again and again through regular training and sensitizations. The "My Bus School" campaign is an important step to bring this important education closer to the elementary school students and prepare it for a safe future in road traffic.
