A century of education in Siegendorf: ceremony for school history

The elementary school in Siegendorf will celebrate an impressive anniversary in the coming year: it will be 100 years old! On the occasion of this special event, the preparations for a large ceremony are already underway to take place on May 23. Director Silvia Mühlgaszner emphasizes that the festival serves to invite all those who have a connection to school, including former directors. In addition to culinary delights, the school also plans movement stations for the children to make the day an unforgettable experience.

A permanent exhibition will present the history of the elementary school and is designed to be integrated into the lessons in the future. At the same time, an open day offers parents and interested parties the opportunity to learn more about the past of the school. Not only the school building itself, but also the story of Siegendorf is processed in detail. These festive activities underline the importance of the elementary school in the region.

a look into the past

The roots of the elementary school in Siegendorf go back to 1640 when it was first mentioned. Due to an increasing interest in school education, the old school building "Am Graben" was rebuilt in 1857. At the end of the First World War, space problems arose when the school taught more than 350 students from the 1st to 8th grade. In order to meet these needs, a new school was built on the community meadow in 1925, now St. Margarethener Straße. A marble panel is reminiscent of this significant establishment, which was opened in 1926.

After the opening, the average number of students was 370. In the turmoil of the Second World War, the school had to be cleared in 1944 because of the quarter of foreign workers. The situation was tense until September 1947, but the school conditions could then be reintroduced. Five years later, in 1949, the classrooms received a comprehensive renovation and partially new facility to improve the learning conditions.

Current developments in school

Another turn in the history of the elementary school took place during the 1974/75 school year when the municipal council requested the closure of the elementary school in Zagersdorf to the state school council. This resulted in the children from Zagersdorf to attend the elementary school in Siegendorf from autumn 1975. In 1974 a parent association was also founded, which increased the cooperation between school and parents' house.

The elementary school in Siegendorf is currently very popular and is visited by around 170 pupils who are taught in 11 classes. The team consists of 18 dedicated teachers who passionately take care of the education and development of their students. This remarkable story, combined with a living present, makes the elementary school Siegendorf an institution that occupies an important place in the region.
