Klingenbach locks through: commuters have to use bypass

In the Burgenland community of Klingenbach, which is located on the border with Hungary, it becomes more difficult for commuters to pass the passage through. This follows the decision to block the traffic from Hungary to Austria via the Klingenbach departure. The measure comes into force, while the highway between Soprone and Györ will soon be completely opened for traffic.

This development significantly changes the commuting traffic flows in the region. According to Mayor Richard Frank from the SPÖ, this decision is a direct result of the increased commuter volume in recent years. "More and more drivers are opting for not using the bypass and driving through our village," he said in an interview with ORF. This often led to traffic jams, especially in the morning when many people drive to work.

A recently carried out traffic count showed that 90 percent of road users who drive through Klingenbach ultimately want to go to the same roundabout, which the vehicles also head for by bypass. This prompted the municipality to introduce the lock to reduce the passage through the village. The decision was made in consultation with the Eisenstadt-Umgebung district administration and is already implemented.

Mayor Frank sees the measure as a long -term solution because it expects a further increase in traffic, especially after the new motorway opened in Hungary. He added that the roadblock should not cause any significant restrictions for the residents. "Most residents know alternative routes and are already prepared for it," continues Frank.

Overall, the situation in Klingenbach reflects a common problem in border municipalities, where traffic flows are strongly influenced by new infrastructure measures. It remains to be seen whether the lock brings the desired results in practice. However, the decision is observed closely by many commuters because it directly influences their daily routes and travel times.
