Burgenland election: Hofer announces coalition plans against SPÖ!
The Burgenland election 2025 is just around the corner and brings an exciting competition between two of the best-known politicians in Austria: Norbert Hofer from the FPÖ and Hans Peter Doskozil from the SPÖ. Hofer has announced that it will do everything possible to take over the regional team in Burgenland. In an interview with OE24.TV, Hofer said: "I started my political path there and know the Burgenland very well." He sees the opportunity to form a new coalition without the SPÖ, which could further increase the tensions in the political landscape, because the SPÖ wants to defend its absolute majority.
a duel of the forces
The discussion round, which took place after a television discussion, was described by Rainer Nowak, deputy editor -in -chief of the "Krone", the most exciting choice in the history of Burgenland. Hofer emphasized his willingness to enter into a coalition with the ÖVP, should he have the opportunity: "If I have the opportunity to form another coalition past the SPÖ, then I have to do so", like "Krone" reported. Analysts believe that a blue and black state government is quite realistic because the FPÖ and the ÖVP have approached at the federal level.
The challenge for Doskozil could, however, be larger than expected, since the relationship between him and the ÖVP is not the best according to political scientist Kathrin Stainer-Hämmerle. Even with a possible defeat, he could have problems finding suitable coalition partners. The strategic considerations about the choice are therefore of central importance, since Hofer also takes a colorful all-party coalition against the SPÖ, which could increase its ambitions.
In the context of national politics, Hofer expressed concerns about a government under SPÖ boss Andreas Babler, whom he described as "Marxists". He warned of the possible consequences of such a coalition and emphasized that he could imagine that the Burgenländer would not perceive a change in the state government as a disadvantage, he should be chosen, as Oe24 reported.
