Attention, parents! Dangerous activity ball for babies recalled!
The Agency for Health and Food Security (AGES) has issued an urgent warning about the Temu “Activity Ball for Babies”. According to 5min.at, the toy can be potentially dangerous for small children as small parts can come loose, creating a choking hazard. It is a toy equipped with various rings and beads and comes from the HUANGER brand, manufactured by Guangdong Huanger Baby Products Co. Ltd. (China) and distributed through Temu.
AGES recommends that all parents and legal guardians stop using the affected toy and dispose of it immediately. The health risk is significant as parts can fall off when playing with the ball, increasing the risk of choking and potential airway blockages. The Federal Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Protection (BMASGK) is monitoring the situation and will take further measures if necessary.
Kik toy recall
In addition, the discounter Kik has launched an immediate recall for another baby toy. These are two variants of a wooden ring toy that do not meet legal safety requirements. According to Ruhr24, this recall concerns the product “Spielzeug Ergee Holzring Croissant/Cloud” with the item number 1191248. The models are under the batch numbers KiK3551 (cloud style) and KiK3552 (croissant style) are listed.
The toy has been sold in stores since January 7, 2025 and has also been offered online since January 29, 2025. Parents are urged to stop using the wooden ring toy and return it to the store where the purchase price will be fully refunded. Kik has also set up a service email address for questions at productinfo@kik.eu.
Health risks and legal framework
According to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), small parts that can be swallowed are among the most common causes of accidents in small children and represent a significant health risk. The EU Toy Directive 2009/48/EC regulates the requirements for toys for children under three years of age, while in Germany the Product Safety Act (ProdSG) forms the basis for product recalls. The analysis by the European rapid alert system RAPEX/Safety Gate shows that toys recently accounted for 29% of all recall reports in Europe. In 2024, 53 product recalls have already been published in the “Toys” category in Germany.
Consumers should pay particular attention to the CE marking when purchasing toys to ensure that the products meet the required safety standards.
