Snow peaks on Semmering: Shiffrin conquers the World Cup!

It's that time again at the legendary Semmering: a spectacular World Cup weekend awaits ski fans! There have already been heated discussions amid the latest developments. The traditional night slalom will not take place this year as international TV reporting gives priority to the “crime scene”. Michaela Dorfmeister, the two-time Olympic champion and vice president of the Lower Austrian State Ski Association, expressed her dissatisfaction with the status of the sport to the media on LAOLA1 and explained that the attractiveness of the event suffers as a result of this decision.

Winner of the giant slalom: Mikaela Shiffrin triumphs!

It was a special day for ski star Mikaela Shiffrin when she celebrated her 78th World Cup victory on Tuesday. The 27-year-old American beat Petra Vlhova from Slovakia in the giant slalom with a razor-thin lead of 0.13 seconds. Shiffrin dominated the first half of the run in front of 3,500 spectators and left the competition behind. Katharina Liensberger was only able to achieve 13th place in the home race. “I didn't drive perfectly, but I attacked,” admitted Liensberger, while her teammate Katharinarupp described Shiffrin's extraordinary performance as “crazy”. This impressive performance from Shiffrin brings her closer to her goal of becoming the record winner in the World Cup.

Home advantage for the ÖSV team?

The ÖSV women's team, which will be competing in Semmering, could benefit from home advantages, believes Dorfmeister. The Austrian skiers have trained on the route and should be able to adapt better to the new conditions. “It makes a big difference in your mind if you already know the route well,” she believes. While the ÖSV talents struggle with the challenge, Semmering still offers a stage for exciting duels and thrilling competitions as the best in the world fight for victory.
