Christmas packages with heart: Styrian youth helps those in need!
In Styria, students from 52 schools and members of the Youth Red Cross put together over 2,000 Christmas packages. These collected, long-lasting foods were lovingly packaged and received personal Christmas greetings before they were distributed to people in need via the Team Austria Tafel and the Red Cross shortly before the holidays. “The Christmas package campaign is a beautiful tradition in the Red Cross,” emphasized Siegfried Stiefwieser, President of the Red Cross in Styria. The campaign not only raises young people's awareness of the needs of others, but also brings great joy to the recipients, especially through the festive packaging and warm messages.
Hard-working helpers in Achim
Similar festive preparations are also taking place in Achim, where the team led by collection point manager Daniela Fimm is working diligently on the “Christmas in a Shoebox” campaign. This charitable initiative, known as “Operation Christmas Child,” has produced hundreds of packages now ready for delivery to children in Moldova, Russia, Mongolia, Latvia and Romania. The preparations not only required great commitment, but also teamwork among the helpers, who carried out this “packing party” with a lot of joy and enthusiasm.
The four men and women who are responsible for the organization in Achim were confident that they would reach the 500 package mark again. Over 560 shoeboxes were sent last year and the motivation remains unbroken. All donated items, including clothing, school supplies and hygiene items, are collected with love - even food that cannot be transported due to customs regulations is used locally. “We are pleased that Stadtwerke Achim is also generously participating in the campaign this year,” says Daniela Fimm. This initiative shows how community spirit and charity at Christmas time can help people in need steiermark.orf.at and kreiszeitung.de reported.
