Cold telephones open: This is how you can help the homeless in winter!
The Caritas cold telephones are active again! In Austria, anyone who sees homeless people in the cold can call a special number to call for vital help. This is done as part of an initiative that has been running for twelve years meinkreis.at reported. The hotline is available around the clock in Vienna, Salzburg and Tyrol; In other federal states, however, only at limited times. Street work teams are available to respond to emergency calls, help homeless people and bring them to suitable sleeping accommodation or at least provide them with warm clothing and food. However, if there is an acute danger to life, the emergency services should be contacted immediately on 144.
Another worrying issue is humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, which remains crucial even as the war continues. Loud caritas-e.de DUFE e.V. supplies people in hard-hit regions with essential goods. With over 50 social bakeries and mobile kitchens, more than 80,000 loaves of bread and tens of thousands of emergency packages are distributed every month. The coming winter months are particularly critical, as temperatures of down to minus 15 degrees are expected. It is estimated that 14.5 million people in Ukraine are in need of humanitarian assistance and many millions of people are displaced. The lack of basic services such as heating, water and food further exacerbates the situation.
Provide help and support
The Caritas organizations appeal for solidarity with those affected. In order to maintain aid services, donations are urgently needed, especially for raw materials such as flour and oil. Just 60 euros a month could significantly improve the life of someone in need in Ukraine. The harsh winter and the ongoing challenges caused by the war pose immense difficulties for aid organizations, but they do everything they can to help those in need as best as possible.
