Perchtenlauf in Lungötz: Tradition meets new faces!

An exciting event has been established in Lungötz as part of the old customs: the Perchtenlauf, which is a tradition not only in this region but throughout the entire Alpine region. The traditional Perchtenlauf of the Kesselpass Lammertal will take place in Lungötz on December 30th, and this year spectators can look forward to a special premiere: members of the newly founded Lammertaler Perchten group will enrich the festival with their impressive, hand-made masks. This group wants to cultivate regional culture and keep the stories and legends of the Lammertal alive, as Andreas Pomberger, the chairman of the association, explains. Around 30 friends have come together to preserve this old tradition and create Instagram-ready moments.

A magical spectacle

The Perchtenlauf is more than just a colorful parade; it is a fascinating marriage of history, art and community spirit. In contrast to the Krampus, who often spreads fear and terror, the Perchten stroke people and objects with their tails to bring good luck for the coming year. These gruesome figures will parade through the streets on December 30th from 7:30 p.m., while visitors can get in the mood for the upcoming events with culinary delicacies and music in the festival tent from 5:00 p.m. The Perchtenlauf serves not only as a tradition, but also as a social gathering where villagers and visitors share their joy in the culture.

The fascination of Perchten customs lasts throughout the winter and attracts not only locals, but also tourists who want to experience the special events in Lungötz. Similar events also take place elsewhere in Tennengau, making the region a dazzling center of customs.
