In the heart of Salzburg, the Lehen retirement home remains a central issue even after the care scandal of the past few months. The magistrate has been in charge of the house for nine months and has reported progress, although full operations are still a long way off. Councilor for Social Affairs Andrea Brandner (SPÖ) emphasizes that we are on the right track, but there is still a lack of qualified staff. There are currently around 70 full-time employees, while the capacity of the house is designed for 90 seniors. An increase to 42 seniors cared for by Christmas 2024 already seems to be within reach salzburg.orf.at reported.
Despite the challenges, operations have been stabilized. New group kitchens and technical equipment have been implemented. The head, Thomas Thöny, emphasizes that the team comes together and new colleagues are actively integrated into the process. An ambitious goal was to reach full capacity by the end of the year, but Brandner admits that this was too optimistic. The aim is now to have 60 places by February to meet the long waiting list of over 360 people, which is described as 'dramatic'.
