Babysitter discovers burglar: shock under the bed!
In an alarming situation, a babysitter discovered a burglar under the bed after one of the children reported a "monster". This disturbing encounter occurred when the babysitter was checking the house to ensure the children's safety. She looked an unknown man in the face, which led to an immediate argument. During the scuffle, one of the children was knocked over, highlighting the severity of the situation. However, the intruder could not be stopped and fled before the police arrived. The day after the incident, police were able to arrest the suspect near the house. He had previously lived in the house and had previously been banned from entering the house with a restraining order due to allegations of violence.
The suspect is now accused of burglary, serious bodily harm and violating the no-contact order. These events not only raise questions about safety in residential areas, but also reflect the fears that many people feel.
Fear of crime
According to a study carried out on behalf of Abus by the market research institute YouGov, many Germans are very concerned about their security. While the majority of respondents say they feel safe from crime, 37% say they feel little to no safety. One in two people has been the victim of a crime, and 11% of these cases were burglaries. Fear of break-ins ranks second, while fear of violence and bodily harm comes first.
Particularly in the context of the corona pandemic, 18% of those surveyed said that they felt more unsafe in 2021 than in the previous year. In addition, 11% reported fraudulent activities specifically aimed at the pandemic. For 49% of those surveyed, the psychological consequences of a burglary are a greater concern than economic damage.
Measures to improve security
In order to increase security in their own four walls, 25% of those surveyed are planning to invest in security systems. Recommendations to improve security include mechanical security and intruder alarm systems (EMA). There is also the prospect of government funding of up to EUR 1,600 for specialists to install security technology. With this in mind, it becomes clear how important it is to take protective measures to protect yourself and your family, especially in light of alarming incidents such as the recent break-in.
