Safe and spooky: How to celebrate Halloween safely!

Halloween is just around the corner! On October 31, 2024, children will transform into little witches, ghosts and vampires and go from house to house to trick or treat. But while the frightening fun is in full swing, safety and caution should come first! Here are important tips that will make the evening unforgettable and safe for young and old.
Being accompanied is essential! Children are often overwhelmed by excitement and underestimate the dangers of road traffic, especially in the dark. Parents should accompany their children or ensure that they are in groups with friends. The costumes should also be clearly visible: add reflective elements so that the little scary characters can be easily recognized even in the dark. A flashlight is also a must! It ensures that the path is illuminated and that tripping hazards are identified in good time.
Safe Halloween Activities
Particular caution is required when crossing streets. Children should only cross the street in safe places such as zebra crossings, as they are often difficult to see in their dark costumes. Prepare for the evening together with your children and plan a safe route. Another important point: Not everyone likes Halloween visits! Only ring the doorbell at houses that are obviously participating and teach your children that laws and rules apply on Halloween too. So Halloween is not a free pass for mischief!
In an emergency or if a child is lost, you can quickly call 110 for help. The Düren police wish all families a spooky, but above all safe, Halloween!
