Racing BMW at 201 km/h: court date as an excuse?

Dortmund (ots)

In a shocking incident on Thursday morning (October 24th, 2024), a 32-year-old driver from Dortmund raced his BMW X5 across Brackeler Straße and drastically exceeded the speed limit. While the speed limit is 100 km/h, the man was caught driving at a breathtaking 201 km/h during a check by the motorway police traffic team. A dangerous rush of speed that not only endangered his life, but also that of other road users!

Using special video technology, the officers observed how the BMW, traveling on the L663, passed in front of them at shocking speed. At a rapid speed of 201 km/h, a car covers an incredible 55 meters per second, which makes the already long stopping distance of around 460 meters all the more alarming! A sudden obstacle could have had catastrophic consequences and police acted quickly.

Court date or frenzy?

When the police stopped the driver, he justified his danger with an alleged court date. But the investigators see it differently: At this breakneck speed, it can be proven that he acted intentionally. The fines rise rapidly from 700 to a shocking 1400 euros! But that's not all - due to the five points he has already accumulated in Flensburg, the amount could continue to rise. The fines office will decide on this and also impose a three-month driving ban, which will really slow down speeders.

Excessive speed is a serious problem on the road! Every year, the highway police's Provida operations have to revoke over 1,000 driving licenses in order to prevent serious traffic accidents and save lives. Another dark chapter in the dangerous game of speed!
