Wolf crowns her comeback with World Cup silver-a dream comes true!
In an impressive comeback, the Austrian Freeski athlete Mathilde Wolf caused a sensation at the World Cup in Slopestyle. Shortly before her 25th birthday, she won the silver medal and underlined her sporty comeback after a year break. "I am so overwhelmed that I did it. I am so happy and proud of myself," she said emotionally in ORF. Wolf cut off excellently in both rounds, scored 72.81 points in the first and in the second run exceeded 73.33 points, which is the best evaluation of the day. Only the Swiss Mathilde Gremaud was even more successful with 85.65 points, but for Wolf it meant the first precious metal at a World Cup. Like Kleine Zeitung she celebrated a remarkable return to the international stage after she had resigned.
In contrast, the German athlete Yemisi Ogunleye dramatically increased her best performance in the shot put. At the 2024 Hallen World Championship in Glasgow, she won the silver medal with a width of 20.19 meters, a personal record that catapulted it into the top ranks of the World Shot puter. After two heavy knee operations in her youth, she was about to give up the sport until she switched to the shooting technique in 2020. This decision proved to be groundbreaking for her career. In 2023 she took tenth place at her first World Cup. According to information from Munzinger Ogunleye had a difficult childhood in which she was confronted with discrimination due to her father's skin color. However, sport gave her strength and the opportunity to get over these experiences.Details | |
