Verstappen before changing teams? Unrest at Red Bull is growing!

A whirlwind can be seen not only in nature, but also in Formula 1: Max Verstappen is seriously considering leaving the successful Red Bull Racing team, even though his contract runs until 2028. According to reports from Cosmo Verstappen is dissatisfied with his team's handling of the current harassment scandal involving team boss Christian Horner. A former employee accused Horner of “cross-border conduct,” but an internal investigation cleared him. The case is due to be heard by a UK employment tribunal in 2026, adding to tensions within the team. At the same time, the four-time world champion has concerns about the stagnating development of the Red Bull car, which has recently lagged behind the more fleet-footed cars of the competition.

Although Verstappen crowned last season with a fourth world title, an uncertain future looms for the upcoming opening race in Australia on March 16th. His doubts about a competitive vehicle are becoming more and more apparent and could have serious consequences for the team if the situation does not improve. The Dutch superstar is considering the possibility of joining Aston Martin, a team that has invested heavily in a promising future, including by signing star designer Adrian Newey and switching engine partners to Honda. Red Bull itself plans to develop powertrains independently starting in 2026—a decision that could bring with it some uncertainty.

Verstappen and his options

Loud Formula1.com Verstappen has already achieved 63 Grand Prix victories in his career so far and is on a unique path. Discussions surrounding his future are becoming increasingly intense, particularly as his contract includes performance-based exit clauses. One of these clauses could become active if Verstappen does not lead the Drivers' World Championship. In 2024 there were rumors of a sensational offer from Aston Martin worth one billion euros, but this was rejected by the team. Despite all the speculation, one thing seems certain: Verstappen will initially continue to contest the 2025 season for Red Bull.
