Rostock Seawolves: Omenaka leaves the team for China!
The Rostock Seawolves have terminated the contract with their Nigerian basketball player Godwin Omenaka. This happened on January 11, 2025, shortly before the team's away game against Ratiopharm Ulm. Omenaka had already asked for clearance in December because he wanted to continue his career in China. For the move, the club will receive a transfer fee in the low six-figure range.
However, the player, who came to the Seawolves from the French first division last summer, had little playing time in Rostock and was often left on the bench. Despite his popularity with fans, Omenaka had a strained relationship with the coach. The Seawolves' sporting director, Kevin Anstett, nevertheless praised Omenaka's development during his time in Rostock. A replacement for Omenaka is expected to be announced next week.
Further personnel changes in the team
It is not the first personnel change at the Rostock Seawolves in recent times: a week ago, playmaker Aigars Skele also left the club and joined a Polish team. Skele was replaced by returning JeQuan Lewis. These changes are related to the team's goal of qualifying for the playoffs.
In the most recent game against Ratiopharm Ulm, the Seawolves lost 72:82. They trailed 12:25 after the first quarter. In the second quarter they reduced the deficit to 19:28, but were unable to catch up. At the start of the second half the deficit was already 20 points when Rostock trailed 28:48. International player Schwartz was the top scorer for the Seawolves with 23 points, followed by Amaize with 16 and Pearson with 13 points.
