Rostock Seawolves: Omenaka leaves the team for China!
The Rostock Seawolves have dissolved the contract with its Nigerian basketball player Godwin Omenaka. This happened on January 11, 2025, shortly before the team's away game against Ratiopharm Ulm. Omenaka had already approved in December because he would like to continue his career in China. For the change, the association receives a transfer fee in the low six -digit range.
The player who came to the Seawolves from the first French league last summer had little time in Rostock and was often left on the bench. Despite his popularity with the fans, Omenaka had a tense relationship with the trainer. The Seawolves sports director, Kevin Anstett, nevertheless praised Omenaka's development during his time in Rostock. A replacement for Omenaka is to be announced in the coming week.
further change of personnel in the team
It is not the first change of personnel at the Rostock Seawolves lately: a week ago, playmaker Aigars Skele also left the club and joined a Polish team. Skele was replaced by returnee Jequan Lewis. These changes are related to the team's aim of qualifying for the playoffs.
In the most recent game against Ratiopharm Ulm, the Seaawolves lost 72:82. After the first quarter they were at 12:25. In the second quarter they shortened the gap to 19:28, but could not catch up. At the beginning of the second half, the deficit was already 20 points when Rostock was 28:48. City player Schwartz was the best scorer for the Seawolves with 23 points, followed by Amaize with 16 and Pearson with 13 points.
