On December 14, 2024 it was announced that the Austrian entrepreneur and politicianJoseph Taushas died. The news of his death has caused deep regret in political and business circles. Harald Mahrer, President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, and WKÖ General Secretary Karlheinz Kopf paid tribute to the former federal chairman of the Austrian People's Party as a passionate entrepreneur and a defining personality of the Second Republic. “With him, Austria is losing a visionary who played a decisive role in shaping the economy for decades,” emphasized Kopf, highlighting Taus’ ability to act as a bridge-builder between politics and business.

A life full of challenges

Josef Taus was born in Vienna in 1933 and grew up in simple circumstances. After graduating from high school, he attended the Faculty of Law and the University of World Trade. During his studies he worked, among other things, as a swimming instructor. His political career began in the ÖVP, where he served as State Secretary for Transport and Nationalized Industry in 1966. He later appeared as chairman of the supervisory board of the Austrian Industrial Management Company. His career in the private sector was equally distinguished; He held important positions in various companies, including as board member of Constantia Industrieholding AG and as co-founder of Management Trust Holding. Even after he retired from active business management, he remained entrepreneurially active until old age, which demonstrated his tireless commitment to the economy orf.at reported.

His tireless commitment and foresight made Taus a respected figure in both areas. National Council President Walter Rosenkranz and other high-ranking politicians praised his services to Austria and expressed their deep sympathy for the family of the deceased. “Josef Taus was a wise advisor whose contribution to the development of our country will not be forgotten,” explained Rosenkranz. This recognition reflects the importance that Taus had in the political and economic landscape of Austria.
