Mona Mitterwallner: Triumph at 19 – new team, big goals!
Mona Mitterwallner, the 19-year-old Tyrolean and two-time mountain bike marathon world champion, is planning an exciting turn in her career. According to the information from Small newspaper she has announced that she will be racing for the Cannondale Factory Racing Team next season. She is moving to Team Trek-Vaude after just one year and will work alongside well-known riders such as Henrique Avancini and Simon Andreassen.
But that's not all! Mitterwallner has ambitious plans for the future. Not only does she want to focus on mountain biking, but she also wants to get a foothold in road racing. "I've always said that I wanted to be on the road. Now the opportunity arose and the timing was right," explained the talented athlete. Their strategy is to take part in the mountain bike world cups as well as to prepare for road races in order to make a good impression at the 2024 Olympic Games Bike Magazine reported.
Two disciplines, one goal
The challenges that lie ahead are considerable, but with her talent and ambition, Mitterwallner wants to be successful in both disciplines. “We have some big goals, but I don’t want to say too much about them yet,” she added. Supported by a Performance Manager who will ensure the necessary resources and organization for her two-pronged approach, Mitterwallner is determined to prove herself in both sports. Her impressive season in the U23 World Cup and her success in cross country have already highlighted her talent, and she is ready to start another chapter in her career.
With a contract until the end of 2024, which also takes into account her ambitions in the elite class, Mitterwallner will compete in the women's elite races of the UCI MTB World Cup with her Cannondale Scalpel in 2022. This represents not only a personal milestone, but also a significant step in the history of Austrian cycling.
