Marcel Hirscher brilliantly announces his ski comeback for January!
Marcel Hirscher, the eight-time overall World Cup winner, has announced his comeback in the Alpine Ski World Cup for next January. The 36-year-old shared on his Instagram profile: "Progress is progressing. Precision is growing." This positive message comes after a challenging period as Hirscher has already canceled the races in Sölden and Levi this season. The reason for these cancellations is a three-week viral infection in the fall, which caused him to be significantly behind in training.
Hirscher, who now competes for the Netherlands, only began his first snow swings at the beginning of September, nine months after tearing his cruciate ligament. In the last few weeks he has completed 22 training sessions in slalom and giant slalom, which is less than a third of the regular training schedule.
Preparing to return
There are still seven slaloms and giant slaloms on the World Cup calendar in November and December. Hirscher expressed optimism but remains realistic about his return. In a blog post, he talked about the patience he had to have and the anticipation that drove him. The goal of returning to snow was formulated back in September as he focused on rehab following his injury. Hirscher reported that he was satisfied with his fitness level and felt no pain.
The media is speculating when exactly Hirscher will return to the World Cup. The start in Sölden at the end of October could be a potential date, but he has announced that he will not start until he feels fully ready. This is intended to reduce the pressure that comes with the wildcard, which secures him a starting place in the top 30. With this Waidcard, Hirscher no longer wants to be stressed and plans to start without any pressure.
Event offers and culinary highlights
In parallel to his sporting challenges, Hirscher also offers culinary experiences in his restaurant Marcel. An exclusive five-course Grand Banquet Prix Fixe menu will be offered on New Year's Eve for $265 per person. The menu, created by Executive Chef Tye Carpenter, includes Steak Tartare, Escargot and a 30 oz. Tomahawk. Other options such as wine pairings are also available and can round off the festive celebration.
So while Hirscher prepares for his comeback in January, he remains active as a restaurateur and offers an appealing experience for his guests. The anticipation of his return to the Ski World Cup is growing not only among him, but also among his fans, who are impatiently waiting for the next chapter of his sporting career.
