Ester Ledecka is fighting for her Olympic chance: drama about a scheduling conflict!
Ester Ledecka, the extraordinary winter athlete from the Czech Republic, faces a difficult choice for the 2026 Olympics. She must decide whether she wants to compete in downhill alpine skiing or as a snowboarder in the parallel giant slalom. However, a request to change the competition calendar was rejected, as the FIS confirmed to the German Press Agency. The competition will take place on February 8, 2026, but the two events will take place at the same time in different ski resorts - the Alpine in Cortina d'Ampezzo and the snowboarders in Livigno. This makes it impossible for Ledecka to take part in both races. According to the Courier, the 29-year-old is hoping for a decision from the Olympic organizers so that she can realize her dream and fight for medals in both sports.
Ledecka has already made history by winning gold medals in both the Super-G on skis and the parallel giant slalom on a snowboard at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. Four years later, at the Beijing Games, she continued her success in snowboarding. She recently secured the bronze medal in the downhill at the World Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. But the setback with her failed application calls her Olympic mission into question. "I hope they give me a chance so that I can deliver this unique show. This is my biggest dream and I really believe that I am one of the best in the world in both sports," Ledecka expressed her disappointment and the desire to prove it. This decision will be crucial for the future of her career, as it is now clear that she only has to concentrate on one discipline.
