Economy in crisis: IHK climate shows historic lows!

As of: October 29, 2024 2:51 p.m

The economy in West Mecklenburg is deep in crisis! The IHK economic climate indicator has collapsed dramatically - by almost five points to a frightening 88.6! The only time companies recently experienced such a gloomy mood was at the beginning of the corona pandemic and after the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. To get a sense of the severity of this situation: the ten-year average of the indicator is 111 points, and a number of 100 marks the limit for economic growth.

The reasons for this worrying development are alarming. The IHK speaks of a combination of serious problems: general concerns about the direction of economic policy, exorbitant energy prices and excessive bureaucracy. But that's not all! The acute labor shortage and the noticeable reluctance to make purchases and investments make the situation even more precarious. IHK President Matthias Belke puts it in a nutshell: Many of the entrepreneurs' resources are wasted in fulfilling bureaucratic requirements instead of advancing the core business. Policies that are far too removed from the reality of companies are further exacerbating the crisis.

What does this mean for the future?

The bleak outlook is more than just a statistic! They cast a shadow over the entire economic development of the region and alarmed business leaders. With the poor situation and the lack of support from politicians, companies are facing a huge challenge that cannot be ignored. The question is: Can politicians learn from these drastic findings and act in good time before the situation worsens?
