Vienna starts the offensive: 40 new school nurses for healthy schools!
The city of Vienna is intensifying its measures for health care in schools with the “School Nurses” project. These qualified health and nursing staff, who have extensive professional experience, take on a central role in the medical care of children and young people in schools. As SLÖ chairman Thomas Bulant emphasizes, the city is continuing its support offensive, which was launched last year by Mayor Michael Ludwig. The project aims to provide students with comprehensive support and shows that children's health is of utmost importance for Vienna, as shown ots.at reported.
Diverse tasks of school nurses
The tasks of school nurses are diverse and go beyond providing initial care for injuries. They look after children with chronic illnesses, support the integration of children with special needs and are important contacts for health issues for both students and legal guardians. They also work closely with school doctors and other specialists in a multi-professional team to specifically design health promotion and prevention, which has proven to be extremely important, as the project's final report shows. Looking ahead, an expansion of the program to 40 additional school nurses is planned for the 2025/26 school year, who will be deployed particularly in schools with a high need for support, according to the information wien.gv.at.
