Sporting upswing for St. Jakob: A new era begins!

A significant project to develop the sports infrastructure was recently presented in St. Jakob. With an investment of around 500,000 euros, a modern sports facility will be built that will be used by around 1,500 active athletes. Mayor Guntram Perdacher describes this project as a matter close to the community's heart, while State Governor Peter Kaiser emphasized the importance of the project for young people. The new sports facility will be part of an educational campus that combines intellectual learning, social interaction and sporting exercise, as Klick Kärnten reports.

The decision to build the sports facility follows the successful merger and renovation of two elementary schools in 2020 and the modernization of the middle school in 2023. The entire expansion of the educational and sports infrastructure will be realized with a project volume of 4 million euros. In this context, a new grandstand building is also planned, which will have a bar and barrier-free infrastructure. The contract was awarded to Poor as general contractor.

Importance of sports facilities for the community

Sports facilities play a central role in promoting municipalities’ health, social and urban development policy goals. They support the sense of community and serve as places for movement and encounters, as Städtebaufoerderung emphasizes. Well-equipped, barrier-free sports facilities are crucial for public services and sustainable urban development.

The Sports Facilities Investment Pact supported cities and municipalities in developing modern sports facilities between 2020 and 2022. The goals included, among other things, the creation of equal living conditions and the strengthening of social cohesion. Although the investment pact will no longer be continued from 2023, the measures will be fully financed until 2026.

The impact on young athletes

Over 85 active players in St. Jakob will benefit from the new sports facility, including 60 children and young people. This improvement in the sporting infrastructure is not only crucial for sporting activity, but also for social integration work within the community. The focus is on promoting and strengthening the health of the population and is a central goal of local administration.

At a time when many sports facilities are affected by a renovation backlog, the rapid implementation of such projects is of great importance. They point to the commitment of local authorities to improving the living environment of their citizens. The new sports facility in St. Jakob became an example of innovative urban development that meets both the needs of the community and the challenges of climate protection.
