Cattle tuberculosis in the Landeck district: first cases discovered!
Landeck, Österreich - In Tyrol Austrian, the alarm was triggered: Several cases of beef tuberculosis were found in the districts of Landeck and Reutte, such as OE24 . As part of a surveillance program for the early detection of this disease, which is considered a serious threat to cattle stocks, extensive checks were carried out in the regions identified as risk areas, including the Upper Lechtal and Stanz Valley, from mid -November to mid -December. It was shown that three cattle from the Landeck district and another from Reutte are infected. Two of the confirmed infections in the Landeck district come from a risk area in which the animals spent summer.
The affected companies were immediately blocked by the veterinary authorities and the diagnostically positive cattle had to be killed. The closures remain until two consecutive examinations will not find any further infections at a distance of two months. So far, however, there is no danger for people, and the final findings of the affected animals are expected in about eight to ten weeks. According to de-academic.com , the district of Landeck is strongly shaped by tourism and also includes significant tourist areas such as Ischgl and the Arlberg, as far as the agriculture adaptation of the region affects local economical conditions.
The animal disease control is particularly important to ensure the health of the herds of cattle and to stop possible outbursts at an early stage. Every year, as part of the TBC monitoring program, around 7,000 cattle from around 700 companies are examined in the affected regions. There are currently no other signs of beef tuberculosis in the other stocks, which makes the measures of the veterinary authority all the more urgent.
