Unbelievable scenes are currently taking place in Magdeburg. The picturesque city is currently being rocked by a serious wave of violence against people of foreign appearance. Migrants are already being insulted, spat on and even pushed on the street. MDR reports on an atmosphere that a student who has lived in Magdeburg for ten years describes as frightening. The situation reached its peak when groups of people were subjected to violent attacks. One case describes how four people brutally attacked and beat an individual. In another case, a car that was assigned to asylum seekers was kicked. From the air of peaceful coexistence, a storm of hate suddenly seems to be raging.
What is particularly worrying is that these incidents culminated in the otherwise peaceful time around Christmas. While people looked forward to special moments of contemplation, people now had to fear attacks because of their appearance. The region's advisory centers are alarmed and are calling for solidarity. The acts of violence are alarming and show that a threatening trend could overshadow the city.
Call for determined resistance
The community and those responsible for public life are now calling for rigorous action against this increase in right-wing violence. The emotional wounds of these attacks are deep and affect not only the victims, but society as a whole. Nobody in Magdeburg should have to fear anymore. Rather, we must treat each other openly and respectfully!
