Protests in New York: Trump Tower under attack from angry citizens!

Trump Tower in New York became the site of a significant protest today, June 9, 2025. Demonstrators have occupied the iconic building to protest against nationwide immigration raids carried out by the US immigration agency ICE. According to oe24.at, at least 24 people were arrested by the police. These arrests were mostly made with cable ties and took place in police cars. During the protests, participants held signs with slogans such as “Kidnapped by ICE” and “Free the Cecot Detainees.”

The police took over the event with a large-scale operation and offered some demonstrators to leave voluntarily; those who remained were arrested. A particularly attentive response comes from the protests, which join the wave of nationwide outrage in New York, as well as in Los Angeles, where unrest and riots characterized the cityscape. Vehicles were set on fire, stores looted and barricades erected in the California city, with police using tear gas and rubber bullets, resulting in the injury of a British photographer who required surgery.

Nationwide protests against the Trump administration

The protests in New York are by no means the only ones. According to ZDF, thousands of people took to the streets in many major US cities, including Minnesota, Michigan, Texas and Indiana. These demonstrations are directed not only against the administration's aggressive immigration policies, but also against the rollback of rights for LGBTQIA+ people and Trump's controversial proposal to relocate the Palestinian population from the Gaza Strip.

One particularly eye-catching banner in Philadelphia demanded: "Democracy is not a spectator sport! Do something." A few thousand people gathered in Washington, D.C., with attendance lagging behind Trump's first term. In Michigan, too, around 1,000 people found their way onto the streets despite the cold weather. In Minnesota there were over 2,000 in extreme conditions.

Riots and raids in Los Angeles

On June 7, 2025, there were serious riots in Los Angeles after the raids in which more than 40 people were arrested for illegal immigration, as the [Tagesschau](https://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/ Amerika/los-angeles-einwanderer-razzien-proteste-violent-100.html) reports. Masked, armed ICE officers forced migrants into unmarked vehicles, leading to violent clashes with protesters. Those gathered near a federal courthouse and a prison called for the release of those arrested.

The use of tear gas and stun grenades by the police further aggravated the situation. As protests in Los Angeles responded to the crackdowns, Trump's deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller emphasized that federal law takes precedence and will be enforced. Amid the unrest, Donald Trump spoke out on Truth Social and called for the deployment of military troops in Los Angeles. He announced he would send 2,000 National Guard troops to California and keep 500 Marines on standby, which was criticized as "illegal" by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Overall, the current protests are a powerful expression of the anger and frustration that is deeply rooted in American society. The future political landscape and the Trump administration's approach to diverse populations remain the focus of national attention.
