New reading meeting in Misburg: Silent Book Club starts in 2025!

A new meeting place for literature enthusiasts will soon open in Misburg: The Silent Book Club Hannover will take place here regularly from January 14, 2025. This innovative reader initiative, which originated in San Francisco, offers a relaxed environment in which participants can enjoy their chosen books in quiet company. Astrid Schulz-Ammadi, head of the Misburg district library, is pleased about this expansion: “The quiet atmosphere fits wonderfully with the philosophy of our district library,” she said. Meetings are scheduled for the second half of each month, with the event beginning at 5 p.m. and marked by a silent reading hour from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A unique reading experience

The Silent Book Club concept works without the typical requirements of a traditional book club. It requires no registration or set reading, allowing participants to choose books based on their own preferences and simply enjoy them. According to founders Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich, the club was founded over a decade ago to introduce people to the joy of reading together in a relaxed atmosphere. The Silent Book Club now has over 1,400 chapters worldwide and is organized by local volunteers. As part of this global community, bookworms in Misburg can also experience the pleasure of reading in a quiet and friendly environment and, if desired, chatting with each other after reading time.

The exclusive use of the Misburg district library has created an ideal place for undisturbed reading pleasure. Anyone interested is welcome to bring their books or make a selection on site. The event is free and promotes the local community, which also contributes to the success of the concept. For further information, those interested can contact the district library or visit the Instagram channel “silentbookclub_hannover”, which provides the latest updates and announcements.
