Culture Prize Gala 2025: Honor for creative minds in St. Pölten!

On October 24, 2025, the eagerly awaited cultural awards gala took place in the festival hall in St. Pölten, where numerous personalities from Lower Austria's cultural output were honored. The event, which was opened by State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, highlighted the importance of culture for society, business and tourism. Mikl-Leitner highlighted the creativity and commitment of the award-winning artists and emphasized the need to promote personal cultural experiences and social contacts.

As part of the gala, special attention was paid to the commemorative year 2025, which is to be designed as a year of participation. This year represents an important occasion to deal with the Nazi era. In her guest speech, Marie Rötzer, the artistic director of the Lower Austria State Theater, spoke about the important contribution of culture to the quality of life. She also warned against authoritarian tendencies and called for investments in art and culture as sustainable investments for the future.

The Lower Austrian Culture Prizes have been awarded since 1960 and aim to make the diversity and quality of cultural work in Lower Austria visible. With a total of eight honorees and 16 recognition award winners, cultural life in the region is enormously enriched. This year the first winners of the cultural awards were also named, including Franz Traunfellner, Lois Schiferl and Albert Reiter. The gala not only offers a platform to honor cultural workers, but also an opportunity to celebrate Lower Austria's cultural heritage.
