Bishops' conference separates from head of communication Julia Moreno!
In a surprising turn, the Swiss bishops and their head of communication Julia Moreno decided to go their separate ways. The decision was followed by "different opinions about the design of the communication of the SBK", as announced in a message from the Swiss Bishops' Conference (SBK). Moreno has been in office since August 2022 and had previously headed the communication department of the Neuchâtel diocesan region. The employment relationship is now being dissolved, which is rather drastic for these institutions and raises questions about future communication.
The SBK, which was founded in 1863 as the first bishops' conference worldwide, acts as the central coordinating body of the dioceses in Switzerland. It consists of nine members, including the bishops of the six dioceses as well as the auxiliary bishops and the abbots of the territorial abbots Saint-Maurice and Einsiedeln. The publication of Morenos excretes emphasizes the importance that the SBK attaches to communication because they regularly hold meetings and use various expert bodies to treat important topics such as theology, ecumenism and bioethics. This makes it clear that internal tensions can even occur in high -ranking church institutions that are in dialogue with society, as it is bischoefe.ch
