ÖFB relies on young talent: Prödl takes on a key role in football!
The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) has set a significant course for the future of the national team: Sebastian Prödl will be the new sports director in the youth sector, while Peter Perchtold will be appointed as U21 team manager. This was announced on Wednesday by ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel. Prödl, who can look back on a career with 73 international matches and most recently worked as a TV expert, sees his new role as an opportunity to enrich Austrian football through his international experience. “I would like to bring what I experienced abroad into Austria,” explained the 37-year-old. He will take responsibility for the U15 to U21 national teams in order to specifically promote talent and recruit them for Austria, which is also strategically important as more and more players can be considered for other nations as well as for Austria, as Prödl emphasized.
New U21 team boss brings a breath of fresh air
Peter Perchtold, who previously served as assistant coach to Ralf Rangnick in the A team, will succeed Werner Gregoritsch. The 40-year-old brings with him in-depth knowledge of Austrian football, which he acquired during his work at various clubs, including VfB Stuttgart and FC Schalke 04. “I know what to expect and what I can expect,” commented Perchtold optimistically. He is already planning initial measures to establish a uniform game idea within the youth teams, which will be important for both the U21s and future talents.
The personnel decisions are also intended to help strengthen the identification of talents who could potentially play for other nations. Schöttel emphasized that Prödl will play a key role in getting these players excited about the Austrian team. The ÖFB strives for young players to see more clearly what opportunities and perspectives the national team offers. In his new position, Perchtold will also work closely with Prödl to set the course for a successful 2025. “It's an exciting task and fun to work with the top talents,” added Perchtold, as before kicker.de was reported.
