David Affengruber: Hopes for promotion in Elche and the dream of ÖFB!

The 23-year-old David Affengruber made the move to FC Elche in the Spanish second division in August 2024 after not extending his contract with SK Sturm Graz. In an interview with “transfermarkt.at” he explained that he longed for a new adventure abroad, only to ignore the critical voices of numerous Sturm fans. “There are always critical voices in football, so you shouldn’t think about it too much,” said Affengruber, summing up his decision with clear conviction.

Promotion hopes in La Liga 2

Affengruber is determined to achieve promotion to the first league with his new team. Elche are currently in fifth place and are only three points behind first place with one less game played. “With this current position in the table, I want to move up with the team. It would be a lie if I said otherwise,” he reveals hopefully. The promotion could also potentially open up his dream of playing for the Austrian national team. "I hope that the call from Ralf Rangnick will come one day. It's always the goal to play for your own country," he adds.

As kicker.de reports, Affengruber is not only a crucial part of the Elche team, but also has the opportunity to prove himself against big teams like Real Madrid or FC Barcelona if promotion is successful. In his opinion, the move abroad was exactly the right thing for him and the crucial games are now ahead of him. Affengruber could soon play a key role in the discussion about the best players in the league.
