Vienna honors creatives: Präauer and Bulbul among the 2025 award winners!
On May 29, 2025, the City of Vienna announced the winners of the City of Vienna Prizes and the Sponsorship Prizes. These awards, which have been presented since 1947, honor outstanding achievements in the areas of architecture, fine arts, media art, literature, journalism, music, popular education and science. The awards are endowed with 10,000 euros each, while the sponsorship prizes, which have been awarded since 1951 to support young artists and scientists, are worth 5,000 euros. City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler (SPÖ) emphasized the crucial role of these awards, especially at a time when cultural and scientific achievements are under pressure. According to Vienna.at, this year's winners included the writer Teresa Präauer and the noise rock band Bulbul.
In total, the prizes were awarded in ten categories, with the winners being selected by independent advisory boards. The jury praised Teresa Präauer for her work, which was described as an “echosounder of contemporary phenomena,” while the band Bulbul received recognition for its “unique conglomerate of trashy experiment and excellence.” The architecture prize went to the office of Dietrich Untertrifaller Architekten ZT GmbH (DTFLR) for the successful transfer of Vorarlberg's timber construction culture to Vienna. Werner Würtinger in the visual arts and the Mai Ling platform in media art were also recognized for their significant contributions. The complete result of the award ceremony is summarized in an overview.
