Art of the seasons: spectacular show in the KHM starts soon!

Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, Österreich - The exhibition "Arcimboldo - Bassano - Bruegel. The times of nature" opens on Tuesday in the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM) in Vienna and is the first big show under the direction of the new general director Jonathan Fine. While he emphasized in a press conference that the planning had already started under his predecessor Sabine Haag, he spoke of the importance of the topic for the presentation of artistic excellence and research at the KHM. The show includes over 140 objects that not only illuminate the art of the three main actors - Arcimboldo, Bruegel and Bassano - but also reflect on the natural sciences and their development in the 16th century, such as Kleine Zeitung reported.

focus on nature

The exhibition begins in front of the main actors, with important works such as Leonardo da Vinci's plant studies and Albrecht Dürer's masterpieces, which show the start of a new era for scientific modernism. This development was supported by innovative instruments such as watches and globes. The curatorial director Francesca del Torre Scheuch explained that the artists, including Bruegel, who, with his impressive landscapes of life in line with nature, gave a new dimension, to expand the understanding of the seasons in art. In contrast, Arcimboldo created allegorical portraits and Bassano celebrated with his seasonal representations until the 17th century, reported KHM

Another special feature of the exhibition is the presentation of loan international museums and other artists, supplemented by Arcimboldo's unique painting, which combines all four seasons in one portrait. This impressive compilation is intended to captivate visitors and encourage you to think about the connection between art and nature while you dive into the fascinating world of past epochs.
