Art of the Seasons: Spectacular show at KHM starts soon!
The exhibition "Arcimboldo - Bassano - Bruegel. The Times of Nature" opens on Tuesday at the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM) in Vienna and is the first major show under the direction of the new general director Jonathan Fine. While he emphasized in a press conference that the planning had already begun under his predecessor Sabine Haag, he spoke of the importance of the topic for the presentation of artistic excellence and research at the KHM. The show includes over 140 objects that not only illuminate the art of the three main characters - Arcimboldo, Bruegel and Bassano - but also reflect the natural sciences and their development in the 16th century Small newspaper reported.
Focus on nature
The exhibition begins before the main actors, with important works such as Leonardo da Vinci's plant studies and Albrecht Dürer's masterpieces, which show the start of a new era for modern scientific science. This development was supported by innovative instruments such as clocks and globes. Curatorial director Francesca Del Torre Scheuch explained that the artists, including Bruegel, whose stunning landscape paintings gave a new dimension to the depiction of life in harmony with nature, helped expand the understanding of the seasons in art. In contrast, Arcimboldo created allegorical portraits and Bassano enjoyed success with his seasonal depictions into the 17th century, reported KHM.
Another special feature of the exhibition is the presentation of loans from international museums and other artists, complemented by Arcimboldo's unique painting, which combines all four seasons in one portrait. This impressive compilation is designed to captivate visitors and encourage them to reflect on the connection between art and nature as they immerse themselves in the fascinating world of bygone eras.
