Looking for food urgently: gifts for a happy festival!
Graz, Österreich - The situation in the social markets in Austria is becoming more and more precarious, especially in Styria. In the Vinzi Market in Graz you register an increase in customers by 15 percent within just two months. Over 130 people flow in there within four hours, reports market manager Sigrid Wimmer. Many families face a financial bottleneck during this time and do not know how to give their children gifts for Christmas. In addition to the urgently needed staple foods, fresh products such as meat and fish are missing.
demand in other social markets also increases
The situation in Leoben, at the WBI business and employment initiative, is no better. Managing Director Wolfgang Winterer describes that fresh vegetables and fruit often arrive in very limited quantities and are sometimes just before decay. Around 300 people are currently entitled to buy in the social market. The location in the Caritas solidar market in Hartberg is similarly dramatic, where Head Gerlinde Schiester reports that durable foods such as flour, sugar and rice are urgently needed. These products are not only important for daily needs, but also for the upcoming holidays.
Especially in the run -up to Christmas, the demand for donated food increases. The social markets try not only to give their customers food, but also small gifts in the form of chocolate, warm socks and tea towels. This gesture should help everyone celebrate a nice Christmas, reports Caritas. Donations are therefore urgently sought to fill the shelves of the markets and to support the people in this difficult time, as well as styria.ORK.AT reported.
