In the fight against the impending budget crisis, the Vorarlberg state government starts drastic measures. As Vol.at , around a hundred positions are to be canceled by the end of the legislative period in order to relieve the tense finances. An internal document that the SPÖ recently released points out that a stopping of a replenishment should save savings of around 50 million euros by 2025. These rigorous austerity measures, which affect all administrative areas, are part of a comprehensive consolidation plan that aims at net zero debt until the end of the period.
The country's debt is expected to increase to 650 million euros in 2025, especially because of the financial burdens from pandemic and high salary degrees. The state government, headed by Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP), has already used a working group to monitor the savings. Meanwhile, the SPÖ criticizes the ambiguity of concrete effects and warned of overloading the remaining employees through personnel reductions.
tensions in the coalition negotiations
The SPÖ also brings extensive goals into the negotiations, including strengthening rural areas and climate protection. It demands a contribution to financial stabilization from the beneficiaries of the past few years, while the ÖVP is urging economic strengthening and rejecting tax increases. It remains unclear whether the parties will reach an agreement while the pressure on the state government continues to increase due to the upcoming budget cuts.
