Apartment fire in Baden: Fire brigade saves people and cats
There was a dramatic house fire on Bahngasse in downtown Baden in the early afternoon. For reasons that are still unclear, the fire broke out in an apartment in an apartment building. The volunteer fire departments in Baden-Leesdorf and Baden-Stadt had to act quickly and increase the alarm level to “B3”. Support came from other fire departments, including FF Baden-Weikersdorf, FF Pfaffstätten and FF Tribuswinkel. A total of around 70 emergency services were on site to fight the flames and the thick smoke, which quickly spread through the stairwell and penetrated into other apartments NÖN.at reported.
Thanks to the use of respiratory protection teams, the fire department was able to rescue several residents and three tomcats from the building. Tragically, one of the cats did not survive the ordeal. The flames were quickly contained and, after intensive extinguishing work, the fire was controlled, with the fire brigade ensuring that no dangerous gases could escape into the surrounding area. Residents were told to spend the night in safety as gas and water had to be turned off to minimize risks. An expert will continue to examine the situation on Friday NOP added.
