Tractor accident in Au: driver seriously injured, helicopter in action!

On Saturday morning, November 8, 2025, a significant tractor accident occurred in Au-Maisäß, Vorarlberg. A tractor equipped with a liquid manure tank veered off a narrow path and fell around 50 meters over a steep embankment. Fortunately, the driver remained conscious and responsive despite the difficult situation. However, he was injured but not trapped.

The emergency services, including the Au fire department, the rescue service and the mountain rescue service, were quickly on the scene. The mountain rescue team took over access to the accident site and helped transport the injured person. The driver was then flown to hospital in a rescue helicopter, which was also necessary because of the rough terrain conditions between the trees. Here the tractor finally came to a standstill, possibly preventing a more serious accident.

More tractor accidents in the region

In this case, 25 emergency services from the Shelter fire department were on site and were supported by the Red Cross in caring for the injured driver. Getting to the scene of the accident was difficult because only off-road vehicles could be used.

The challenges of rescue operations

The high number of accidents involving agricultural vehicles has raised concerns about safety measures in the region. While the fire department and other emergency services do their best to respond quickly, accessing the scene of an accident often remains a major challenge. Materials and personnel often have to be transported to the scene of an accident in several off-road vehicles to ensure effective assistance.

The current incidents are a reminder to farmers and drivers to always exercise caution, especially on rough terrain where the risk of accidents increases significantly. Increasing safety standards and awareness of possible dangers could help minimize the risk of such accidents in the future.

Developments over the next few months will show whether the responsible authorities will take appropriate measures to increase safety on the roads and fields.
