Safe through use: 36 machinists train in the blue light simulator
On August 28, 2025, 36 machinists from the Traunstein district completed blue light driving training on a simulator in the Traunreut fire station. This practical training aims to ensure the safe transport of crew and vehicles during operations. The event took place on a total of six evening dates and lasted around two and a half hours. In addition to the practical journeys, the training also included the legal principles of road traffic, which ensured comprehensive training for the participants. It was reported on fireworld.at that demand from the fire departments in the district was high, so that not all registrations could be taken into account.
The simulator used costs around 175,000 euros and is financed by the State Ministry of the Interior and the Bavarian Insurance Chamber. Two of these simulators are currently in operation in Bavaria. The coordination and instruction of the trainers is carried out by specialists from the state fire brigade schools to ensure that the participants are best prepared for realistic challenges. The simulator offers a variety of realistic traffic situations, which even include sudden weather or unexpected obstacles such as children on the road, according to the information on kvaltoetting.brk.de.
Training content and realism
The practical training for participants includes at least two trips as well as a debriefing with an experienced driving trainer. This process follows the review of response options and danger perception with each pass. Innovative approaches to training are intended to increase safety and professionalism in the operational team. Soundscapes with radio messages and sirens in the simulator help increase stress levels during activities, simulating the pressure of real operations. Coaches with extensive specialist knowledge lead the training and thus contribute to improving reaction times and reducing the risk of accidents adac-fahrtraining.de.
Those responsible for the district fire brigade association drew a positive conclusion from the event and thanked the helpers as well as the city and fire department of Traunreut for providing the premises. This joint effort highlights the high priority that road safety has for all road users.
