A serious traffic accident triggered a dramatic rescue operation on September 29, 2024 on the B154 Mondseestrasse in Upper Austria. A car coming from Scharfling crashed into a rock wall with full force. The impact was so severe that the left side of the vehicle was severely deformed and the handlebars remained trapped in the vehicle. This led to the St. Lorenz and Au-See fire departments being immediately alerted to provide assistance 5min.at reported.
Rescue operation in full swing
The fire department was quickly on the scene and began providing medical care to the seriously injured driver. By using modern rescue technology, such as spreaders and hydraulic rescue cylinders, the driver was successfully freed under the supervision of an emergency doctor. A total of four people were injured in the accident, with one person being seriously injured, while the other occupants, although injured, were able to exit the vehicle on their own. The injured received comprehensive medical treatment by emergency doctors from Mondsee, St. Georgen im Attergau and Bad Ischl, supported by Red Cross teams, as reported by ORF Burgenland is to be read.
The bumpy road conditions and the late timing of the accident meant that the B154 had to be closed to traffic during rescue efforts. A total of almost 60 emergency services from the police, Red Cross and fire brigade were on site for over two hours to treat the injured and recover the accident vehicle. After the rescue work was completed, the Mattersburg fire department was deployed to rescue the vehicle, which had to be transported away with a crane.
