Shocking accidents on the B285: High levels of property damage and injuries in Lower Franconia!
In Lower Franconia, two serious traffic accidents occurred on the B285 in the Rhön-Grabfeld district on Friday, December 21, 2024. The first accident, according to the Fulda newspaper was caused by a 60-year-old driver ignoring the right of way who overlooked a truck while turning onto the B285. The collision with the truck's trailer caused significant material damage of around 18,500 euros, but fortunately no one was injured.
In the afternoon of the same day, another accident occurred in Nordheim vor der Rhön. Here, three vehicles on the B285 had to slow down due to traffic conditions, resulting in a rear-end collision in which one person was slightly injured. The total damage caused amounts to around 13,500 euros. The local fire department was deployed to control the damage.
Serious accident claims two lives
The B285 federal highway was closed in both directions while an expert was called in to clarify the cause of the accident. The accident also had an impact on the neighboring railway overpass, which must be inspected before reopening. The local fire brigade supported the police during the accident investigation, and the emergency services took care of the traumatized witnesses on site.
