Slush chaos: minibus tips over – injured in tire accident!
Today, January 8, 2025, several traffic accidents occurred due to the winter road conditions in Austria, which led to some dramatic scenes. In a violent incident, a 26-year-old driver of a minibus carrying eight people lost control of his vehicle on the slush-covered road during an overtaking maneuver. The minibus veered off the B320, overturned and ended up in a ditch. Fortunately, all occupants were able to free themselves. Nevertheless, seven of them suffered injuries of an indeterminate degree that led them to the clinics in Schwarzach and Schladming. The driver's alcohol test, who originally comes from Romania, was negative. Because the accident was being recorded, the affected section of the route was completely closed for the duration of the operation, reported 5 Min.
Lots of traffic and dangerous conditions
The fire departments of Wagrain in Pongau and Thomatal in Lungau were called upon in several other incidents. A truck left the road on the L214 near Wagrain and had to be pulled back onto the road using a cable winch. The fire brigade's operation lasted around 45 minutes and was successful. Meanwhile, the Thomatal fire department was alerted at 1:48 p.m. because another minibus had left the road on the snow-covered L225 (Thomataler Landesstraße). This vehicle was also able to be recovered within 40 minutes with the help of an installed cable winch, as MeinBezirk.at reported.
These accidents highlight the dangers posed by winter driving conditions. Drivers should be extra careful and adapt to the conditions to avoid such risky situations. Current events show how important rapid reactions by emergency services are in order to minimize injuries and limit damage.
